A courtyard residence built around a 70-year-old tree, with timber screens and night gardens.
01The brief
Keep the old ghaf tree, give the family two separate wings, and make the courtyard usable in July.
02Our approach
The plan wraps the tree in an L. Mashrabiya-inspired timber screens and a shaded water rill drop the courtyard temperature by up to 6°C in the evening.
